News and events

On January 25, the AmSU celebrated the coming New Year according to the lunar calendar or the Spring Festival. The celebration brought together students fr om different countries - China, Russia, Zambia, Congo, Afghanistan, Syria and Morocco. While Russian and Chinese students are already familiar with the Spring Festival, some students fr om other countries found out about its traditions for the first time.

The celebration was presented as a number of various master classes. Young people were cooking a traditional Chinese New Year dish - dumplings. Students from China showed how to roll out the dough and shape the dumplings. Two more well-known New Year's dishes were being prepared on nearby tables - the Russian “Olivier salad” and the Chinese “Heihe”.

While the dumplings were being boiled, the students were doing calligraphy. They were asked to write the Chinese character "Happiness", on red sheets, which are usually hung upside down on doors or walls. It is believed that such decoration will bring prosperity to the house.

The festival ended with a joint lunch, wh ere the students tried all the dishes that they had prepared during the master classes.
