Earth-orbiting sleep and spacewalks: schoolchildren spoke with members of the ISS expedition

News and events

The conversation took place in a distance format, namely via radio link.

Communication with the International Space Station was established in the Amur Mission Control Center. Schoolchildren had the opportunity to find out more about the life and work of the Hero of Russia, pilot-cosmonaut of the Russian Federation, commander of the long-term ISS-64 expedition Sergey Ryzhikov and test cosmonaut of the Roscosmos detachment, flight engineer of the expedition Sergey Kud-Sverchkov.

The conversation between the students and the cosmonauts lasted about 10 minutes. The session was limited in time for objective reasons – you can only receive a signal from the ISS when it passes over the territory of the region.

Nevertheless, students managed to ask a lot of questions about the space expedition. Firsthand, the students found out that the duration of a spacewalk can reach 6 or even 9 hours. In addition, the cosmonauts told how they spend their free time on the ISS, and also talked about the future of Russian cosmonautics.

The most popular question from schoolchildren was about space food.– Space food is almost no different from the usual. The only difference is in the way it is prepared – before eating, we add hot or cold water to it to recondition the food to its normal state. In addition, we have special canned food, which is very similar to Earth food, - said cosmonauts.
