International students celebrate the Holiday of Maslenitsa: everything is in accordance with the traditions!

On March 14, Amur State University held a large-scale event for international students dedicated to the Russian the End of Winter holiday – Maslenitsa. Young people from China, Vietnam, Nigeria, Congo, Mali, Sudan, Afghanistan and other countries got acquainted with the traditional Russian folk holiday. Students from Russia helped them to immerse in the traditions of Maslenitsa. There were 120 participants on this event overall.
The event was organized and conducted by the Amur State University students under the guidance of their teacher Marina Kuroedova. The holiday was held within the framework of the activities of the coordination center for the formation of an active civic position among young people, the prevention of interethnic and interfaith conflicts, countering the ideology of terrorism and the prevention of extremism.

The opening of this event was brilliant. The students performed Russian folk songs and Russian round dance. After that, the AmSU students told the guests about the history of the holiday, rituals and traditions. International students took part in numerous workshops on making Maslenitsa amulets in the form of the sun. The guys were happy to participate in the traditional Maslenitsa activities – lifting weights, arm wrestling and others. The students of the AmSU suggested to foreign guests how to perform the best, and also competed with the them.

The international students who took part in the event came to Russia for the first time. They are still not familiar enough with the culture of our country and this holiday is one of the first and very significant insight into it, — the organizers noted. — In addition, the format of the event made a great contribution to the international communication. The process of joint creative work allowed Russian and foreign students to understand each other better.
