The Amur State University held a festive event devoted to the Lunar New Year

News and events

On the 17th of January the Amur State University held an event dedicated to the upcoming Lunar New Year. The Spring Festival will be celebrated on the 22nd of January.

The event was organised by the International Affairs Department of the university with the support of the centre "Window of the border culture".

The young people from China, Zambia, Syria and Afghanistan were the guests of this event. The students of the Department of Chinese Studies from the International Affairs Faculty also took part in this celebration.

An informative programme was prepared for the participants. The students from Russia, Zambia, Syria and Afghanistan learnt about the traditions of the Asian New Year and the students from China could immerse themselves into the familiar and "homelike" atmosphere.

Workshops on calligraphy and paper-cutting of the Chinese character ("happiness") were held for the young people. The students could also try on the costumes of mythological Chinese lions and then took part in a dance battle for the pearl.

The young people made surprises of their own as well. For example, the students of the Department of Chinese Studies performed a poem in Chinese.

At the end of the celebration there was a dinner with the traditional Chinese New Year food.

The Amur State University wishes its partners and students from China a happy Spring Festival!
